Q1.

How do I apply for housing or rental assistance?

You must complete an application. You can :

  1. Download an application from our home page.
  2. Come into our office between 8 am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday to pick up an application.
  3. Call and request that an application be mailed, emailed, or faxed to you.

Eligible applicants are added to the appropriate waiting list(s).   

Q2.Do you have emergency housing?

Potter County Housing Authority does not have any emergency housing programs. Emergency Financial Assistance for housing may be available through the Potter County Office of Human Services 814-544-7315. 

Q3.What are the HA's normal hours of operation?

8:00 am - 4:30 pm,  Monday-Friday. Our offices are closed on some Federal holidays.

Q4.What are the income eligibility requirements?
Eligibility for housing programs is generally based on income and the size of the family. For more information about eligibility visit the specific program page on our website.
Q5.How much will my rent be?

For Section 8, your rent will generally be 30% of your adjusted gross income with some exceptions. Section 8 staff will explain the rent calculation to you in further detail. For the elderly/disabled and family housing complexes, your rent will depend on a number of factors, including: fair market rent for that complex, your income, family size, eligible medical expenses for elderly/disabled families, and other applicable deductions.

Q6.I applied for Rental Assistance. How long will it take to get a response to my application?

New Section 8 rental assistance applications are processed once a month. You will receive an acknowledgement after your application is processed.

Q7.How do I find out my status on the Section 8 waiting list?

There are two ways to find out your status on the waiting list:

  1. Call Section 8 staff (preferred)--814-274-7031 option 3.
  2. Come into our office and request your status.
Q8.I am single, do I qualify for rental assistance?

Yes, for the Housing Choice Voucher program (Section 8); the housing complexes have differing eligibility requirements.
